Face and hands are two most eloquent elements of a human body, possessing very different power of engaging a viewer. A facial expression conveys a subjective emotional charge while a hand expression concentrates on delivering a message objectively, leaving the emotional interpretation up to a viewer. Consequently, where a facial expression triggers empathy and immerses one into artist’s feelings about the subject, a hand expression is a cue for mental and emotional associations that are viewer’s solely own.
